Ashby de la Zouch is a civil parish and small market town in Leicestershire, England. It is located 23 miles southwest of Nottingham, 19 miles northwest of Leicester and 29 miles northeast of Birmingham. The postcode is LE65 and the town has a population of approximately 13,000.

The town’s name originates from the Anglo-Dutch Ashby, which means Ash-tree farm, and was after the Norman Invasion added to when the town became a possession of the La Zouche family. In the beginning of the 15^th century a castle was built in Ashby that later the same century came in the possession of the Hastings family. During the English Civil War is became a Royalist chief garrison under the control of Colonel Henry Hastings and fell after a long siege in 1646. The town is also the setting for Sir Walter Scotts’s Ivanhoe were he describes the legendary archery competition held in Ashby by King John in which Robin Hood competed and won.
