Wellingborough is a borough and market town in Northamptonshire, England. It is located 7.5 miles southeast of Kettering, 12 miles northeast of Northampton and 20 miles northwest of Bedford. The postcode is NN8-NN9 and the town has a population of approximately 73,000.

The town was founded by the Saxon leader Waendel and accordingly named Waendelingburgh in the early 6^th century. Around 1160 All Hallow Church was built by monks from the Croyland Abbey, which was a modest monastic garage in medieval Wellingborough. The town was granted a market charter in 1201 by King John. During the English Civil War Wellingborough was no place of substantial conflict but rather of minor skirmishes which at one point led to the killing of a parliamentarian officer which was followed by severe reprisals. Afterward, the town was home to a colony of Diggers, a group of Protestant Christian agrarian communists founded in 1649, and there is little information about that period.
